What is the good word everyone? Feeling tired of the same old weekend scene of drinking starbucks and discussing the impending commercialization of everything? FEAR NOT!
If you happen to be in the Manhattan area, there is hope. And it comes in the form of the Come Out and Play festival!!!
Hard to describe but infinitely fun, Come Out and Play is a "big games" festival. Big games are the massive, large-form games of tag or kick the can, but in a variety of infinitely cooler iterations including Pac-Mac (aka Pac-Manhattan), Pong, Risk and more.
I'll let them explain:
"When was the last time you played in public?
Come Out & Play is a festival dedicated to street games. It is
three days of play, talks, and celebration, all focused on new types of
games and play.
When
The festival will run from September 22-24, 2006. Games will occur throughout the day in locations around the city. See the schedule of games for more details about events.
Where
While games will run in locations around the city, the festival headquarters will be hosted by the Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, located at Eyebeam at 540 W. 21st Street, New York, NY. Stop by the headquarters during the festival for information and to see game updates.
COME OUT & PLAY!"
I totally suggest checking this out this weekend, September 22-24, you
will not regret it. I mean, when is the next time you will get to
play Space Invaders on the side of building using your body as a
controller? Or play pong using your body... No, I'm not kidding.
Wu Tang, Wu Tang!! More stop motion, this time in the theme of old school video games. These must have taken a heck of a lot of time to complete. I know when i get a crazy idea, it's always easier just to do it myself like this one:
But to work with a giant group of people? Oh the humanity (and by humanity I mean scale)! This second piece is incredible:
*****UPDATE*****
The first video ("Game Over" by PES) was actually created by the same people that do the stop motion Bacardi commercials... They have developed a very unique style that definitely sets their art apart from others AND they showcase a lot of it here.
