Er, 2007... If you haven't heard of LCD Soundsystem that's okay because you probably don't subscribe to Res Magazine or make nice with folks like Novak. But that doesn't mean you can't ACT like you already knew about it, and are already over "Daft Punk is Playing at My House." Because you are, right? I mean that was like 2 years ago.
Let me make it really simple for you:
1) Download this song
2) Memorize the phrase, "It isn't summer without a remix."
3) Play very very loudly at the following: rooftop parties, hotel rooms prior to major social events, abandoned high school cafeterias
More summer music on the way...
Mostly because I don't really like live concerts. A friend (whom I owe a major debt of gratitude for helping move this weekend) had tickets to go and see her tonight. Well, he and his wife had tickets, but for some reason or another they aren't able to go either.
Not really sure where this is going, BUT MY POINT IS, I like Feist. And having seen the following video I may actually pony up and go the next time she comes to town. You know, when she's so huge that even my mom knows about her.
Damn. I can never win.
Anyways, enjoy this vid, she's rocking out and I love it:
There's also something very charming about her that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps she's like a super-sexy Michael MacDonald, riding a wave of smooth rock THAT WILL NO DOUBT saturate every aspect of pop culture in 6 months? Maybe it's because she's a geeky chick that also happens to be hot?
I don't know for sure, but check out this HORRENDOUS music vid (seriously, who greenlighted this?):
See! That is like the GEEKIEST dance you have probably ever seen in your life, but you can't look away! Seriously, what in the hell is going on? It looks like the choreography from the pageant scene at the end of Dirty Dancing!
Oh Feist, you flummox me so...
But together it creates a weirdly satisfying internet "must have": Bob Dylan singing Dr, Suess.
No, I'm not making this up, it's really him and it's not a mashup. I wouldn't categorize it as something that I love, but I DO love the simplicity of this site. Check out the spinning record! What a simple solution to liven up very basic page (hint, try pausing the song, you can hear still the crackling spinning record). Also, the entire album is avaible for free with the link at the bottom of their page or here.
It seems as though I have hit a lull in cool internet finds of late; but what are you going to do about it? Comment? Methinks not, lazy asses bones.
I don't think I have ever complained about the internet... specifically because it keeps giving me free options to fill my iPod. And lord knows I love the free.
ANYWAYS*, I'm 100% on liking this site, but feel a little behind having just stumbled up Daytrotter. The site functions as the online outlet for a grand radio show/recording studio that invites the just-about-to-hit-somewhere bands** the chance to rework old tunes. Interviews, illustrations, and cheeky hipster entertainment abound... less the clever t-shirts and melancholia. And to top it all off? FREE DOWNLOADS of all the bands that hit the studio there.
The selling point is that you "hear it just as it was recorded" when the band visited making for truly unique recordings. The other distinct advantage is the equipment that studio uses creates extremely delicious tunes full of rich sound and distinct flavors.
Wait, you want one more advantage to the site? How about 8 new tunes every week. That's more free tunes than you can shake a stick at.
*re: ANYWAYS: I was doing this LONG before I read anything by Chuck Klosterman. No beef, many people do this, I don't care... I'm just saying I've been doing it for quite a bit now.
**re: just-about-to-hit: About to "hit" for those who don't read Pitchfork media on a regular basis... Jeez you guys are snarky today.
