Stop motion is one of the oldest forms of animation. You set up a still scene, take a photo, move the scene around a little bit, take a picture, and so on and so on. Once you have a series of photos, you view them in order to see the fruits of your labor. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but ALWAYS worth watching because you never quite know what it's going to look like.
Probably the most famous stop motion projects in the world (currently) are the adventures of Wallace and Gromit,
who have major theatrical releases, shorts, product promotions, and
even a museum. But like all stop motion pieces, they started out
with a short, a cartoon just a few minutes in length.
Back in the day, I too ventured into the world of stop motion. It took a long time, but it was some of the easiest, hardest, and ultimately rewarding work ever with a camera. After 4 grueling days and 2 separate shoots, our vision never quite came to fruition of a DJ inside my head; but with help of illustrious designer NewBlackMedia and the musical stylings of DJ Process it got pretty damn close.
I included the clip, but only to compare it with the most current (see
hottest) stop motion peice out there right now... that's right, I'm
talking about the insane work of Saiman Chow. I like to think my work is good, but his... well, is fantastic. Pretty weird, but fantastic.
The video is the result of Adidas' new viral campaign with their Adicolor line. Several other videos have been commissioned, and I'll post when I get a chance. But they're not stop motion... so, I can't very well include them in this post about stop motion. So just relax.
