I was welcomed home from my recent vacation with a DOWNPOUR of rain. That is to say, on my way to work, it rained so much (and so hard) that i had to sit in my cube without shoes and socks on. My entire being had been soaked to the bone and felt like I had just gotten out of a pool after someone had "accidentally" pushed me in as a joke. The pool being New York, the pusher being New York, and the accident being me in New York.
Somehow the phone in my pocket continued to chug along for a few more days. But eventually it sputtered to death, unable to register a charge no matter how long it's been plugged in. And that was over three weeks ago.
The good news is that the phone itself still works. The bad news is that now I want a new one. And that's ridiculous. All I have to do is install the new battery I bought off Amazon for $7 bucks and I'm EXACTLY where I was a month ago. Instead I'm toying with the notion of the iPhone.
I certainly don't covet the thing. It's just the first time I have been intrigued by a phone/PDA in about 5 years. All of that aside, it's a HORRIBLE idea to get it. How long does the battery last? How much is the data plan going to cost? Will the screen get scratched like the most recent iPod? How heavy is it?
And most importantly:
What happens if I get caught in the rain again?
So do I go the $7 route or the $600 + activation + monthly fees route?
I think I'd rather get a dog.
